Rumsey Engineers Founder Named "Energy Engineer of the Year"

Oakland, Calif.—The Association of Energy Engineers, San Francisco Bay Area Chapter has named Peter Rumsey, founder and president of Rumsey Engineers as their "2001 Energy Engineer of the Year."

The Award is presented to a registered professional engineer for outstanding accomplishments in promoting the practices, principles and procedures of energy engineering, and for superior service to the Association.

The recognition has a special meaning to Rumsey, because it represents the company’s award under the company’s relatively new name of Rumsey Engineers. "This is proof that we’re still delivering the same innovation that our clients have come to expect from us," Rumsey said. "Only our name has changed."

Rumsey Engineers has quickly developed a reputation for innovative thinking for producing energy efficient design, even in the most critical and sustainable of environments. The company submitted their installation of the Oakland Museum of California as an example of their work. This museum houses a variety of irreplaceable California’s historic artifacts that must be maintained in very specific conditions. "Take into consideration the unique architectural layout of the building, foot and auto traffic patterns, and impact from natural factors like weather and it’s easy to see how this environment can change quickly," Rumsey said. "The challenge is to not only maintain a fine degree of environmental control but to do it in the most cost-effective way possible."

Rumsey created a unique energy solution that combined natural elements with solid engineering principles to deliver the necessary degree of control while simultaneously increasing efficiency to dramatically cut the facility’s energy costs.
Rumsey also appreciates the acknowledgement of his peers in the region amongst some tough competition and credits his employees for his success. "There are a lot of companies out there doing a lot of great things. To be singled out for a tremendous honor like this is really gratifying. But none of this would have been possible without the contributions of everyone on the Rumsey Engineers team. We did it!," Rumsey said.

The Association of Energy Engineers is a dedicated group of over 8,000 professionals in 67 local and regional chapters committed to helping their firms or clients increase energy efficiency, utilize innovative energy service options, enhance environmental management programs, upgrade facility operations, and improve equipment performance to bolster their organizations' bottom lines. The organization serves as a gateway for members to the latest information of an ever-changing industry.
