Rumsey Engineers Receives 2003 ASHRAE Regional Award
Oakland, Calif.— The American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has presented Rumsey Engineers with a prestigious 2003 Regional Technology Award.
Last month, Rumsey's project for STMicroelectronics in Phoenix, Arizona won first place in the Existing Industrial Facilities or Processes category at the ASHRAE Golden Gate Chapter awards, qualifying them for a regional award. STMicroelectronics hired Rumsey Engineers to design an energy efficient HVAC system in a short timeline for a 2000 sf Class 10 production cleanroom that converted from office space. The resulting solution met all client‚s goals including a factor of four reduction in energy use as well as a substantial reduction in noise levels.

The ASHRAE Technology Awards recognize outstanding achievements by members who have successfully applied innovative building design in the areas of occupant comfort, indoor air quality and energy conservation. Their designs incorporate ASHRAE standards for effective energy management and indoor air quality. Performance is proven through one year‚s actual, verifiable operating data. Awards are given on a chapter level with winners moving on to the regional and national competition.
