March 2005 Rumsey Engineers Receives “Laboratory of the Year” Award for Design of Global Ecology Research Center Oakland, Calif.— Rumsey Engineers today announced that R&D Magazine presented the company with a “Laboratory of the Year” award its work on the Carnegie Institution's Global Ecology Research Center. Rumsey was the lead consultant for the mechanical and plumbing engineering for the project, which was completed in April 2004. The project received a Special Mention award for the design and integration of its energy efficiency and sustainability features. The Global Ecology Research Center incorporates an array of ultra-efficient HVAC systems that have never been used in a laboratory building. A 63 percent reduction in energy use for the laboratory’s HVAC design was achieved in this building without any sacrifice in air quality and research safety. Key environmental features include:
