The first state office building in the U.S. to be awarded a LEED Platinum rating, this building on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River was commissioned by The Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The mission of the design team was to create an office space that met strict comfort and environmental sustainability guidelines and used 50% less energy than a typical office building. An exceptional collaboration between Rumsey Engineers and BNIM Architects resulted in many innovative mechanical system features that significantly reduced the building's cooling and heating load. The building also uses natural ventilation and supply air from a raised floor system to further increase comfort and reduce energy use. The combined effects of an exceptional building envelope, extremely efficient central utility plant and a low resistance air-side system brought the HVAC system energy savings well beyond 55% compared to the ASHRAE base case model.
