Rumsey Engineers President to Conduct High-Performance Design Seminar at AIA San Francisco

Oakland, Calif.—Rumsey Engineers today announced that founder and president Peter Rumsey, P.E., CEM, will conduct a seminar entitled "How Architects and Engineers Can Better Work Together for High-Performance Design" to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) San Francisco chapter. The seminar, co-presented with Martin Dreiling, Architect, CSS Associates Architects, will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at the AIA San Francisco office.

Architects rely on engineering disciplines (mechanical, plumbing, structural, electrical/IT) to design high performance, cost-effective buildings. Mr. Rumsey will discuss strategies to increase teamwork and achieve optimal design, including design principles, process improvements, contract incentives, performance metrics and benchmarks, and building performance modeling. Discussions with the audience will explore how to bridge the gaps between the professions.

A diverse panel of experts will join Mr. Rumsey and Mr. Dreiling, and share practical techniques to better coordinate and encourage engineers to deliver maximum value. The panelists are David Kaneda, Electrical Engineer, IDeAs, Inc., George Loisos, Architect, Loisos + Ubbelohde Associates, and David Mar, Structural Engineer, Tipping Mar and Associates

Peter Rumsey, PE, CEM, is an emerging leader in engineering design for sustainable buildings whose work has earned national recognition. He has a mechanical engineering degree from U.C. Berkeley and is a registered mechanical engineer in Arizona, California, Idaho, Missouri, Oregon and Texas. He is a Certified Energy Manager and an active member in ASHRAE and Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). Mr. Rumsey was the recipient of the Bay Area Energy Engineer of the Year award in 2001.
